Big Hoose Project Update

  • 12 April 2024

Due to the significant growth and continued success of the Big Hoose Project over the last 2 years, the Cottage Board of Directors have made the decision to set up the Big Hoose Project as a stand-alone SCIO and this has now been approved by OSCR.

With over 2 million essential household item donated to families , who would have believed that our pilot project would have made such an impact to so many or would now be replicated to support those facing the greatest challenges across the UK, creating a real force of nature as the voices of both families and practitioners, funding trusts and businesses stand together united for real change to enable a future where families won’t live an existence and instead live healthy fulfilling lives.

As discussed at our Big Hoose event in October 2023, we believe by setting up the Big Hoose as a SCIO, the project can continue to develop and meet the needs of families not only here in Fife but also across Scotland in partnership with Amazon and the many other companies that have now joined us to support our children and families experiencing poverty and destitution as well as make a lasting impact to our environment, in short creating a circular economy for the future.

Amazon have now also supported the formation of a further 6 multibank initiatives across the UK.

Some of the new Big House Project SCIO Board of Directors will transfer from our already successfully established logistics committee with highly skilled and experienced representatives from across all sectors.

We will spend the next few months setting up the hugely important infrastructure and processes needed to ensure the Big House will have the very best people and systems in place.

Our Strategic Manager, Pauline Buchan’s heart belongs with the Cottage Family Centre and therefore she will remain with the Cottage but will offer advice and support to the new SCIO Directors to ensure a smooth transition is achieved.

Our Big Hoose staff team will transfer to the new Big House Project SCIO and this should ensure there is very little impact to service delivery in the coming months as we make this transition and we will keep you updated as we progress.

On behalf of everyone at the Cottage Family Centre, thank you for your continued support it really does means so much to all of us.’
